The Head of Household, accompanying Spouse and dependant children up to the age of 25, who physically reside with you, are each entitled to one tax-free vehicle purchase per year, subject to them holding a full driving licence. To classify as an Entitled person you must be a member of the British Armed Forces or Civilian Component, who is present in Germany and who has been, or is expected to be, stationed in Germany for a minimum of Twelve months. Should you merely receive a Six-month attachment to Germany, you will not be eligible for a tax-free vehicle purchase.
Yes, you can. We use a selection of approved and affiliated companies to secure the best possible trade-in price for you. Any price given will be subject to the vehicle condition being as described on the appraisal form at the point of handover.
We offer a selection of tailor made finance packages, which have been specifically designed with the needs of our Military customers and Entitled Personnel in mind. Please be warned that Hire Purchase finance is not accepted for tax-free vehicles.

Yes you can, but you must export the vehicle within 60 days of the initial UK registration (this date is shown on the Pink Logbook) and register the vehicle with the appropriate Military authority within 30 days of arrival. Please remember that when posted to Europe you will also require Left Hand drive lights.
To avoid falling foul of the BFG Regulations, it is vital that you adhere to the instructions laid down in standing orders. Be warned that should you register your vehicle in the UK before it has been BFG registered for a period of one full year, it will result in a ban being imposed, preventing you and your family from BFG registering another tax free vehicle for a period of Five years. Likewise if you return (or ‘land’ as termed on the yellow BFG Form 414) your part exchange vehicle to the UK for the purpose of UK registration, prior to it having been BFG Registered for a period of one full year, this will also result in a ban being imposed. To avoid this situation, please ensure you check your dates carefully, prior to making your travel arrangements.
Only the registered owner of the vehicle or their spouse may register the vehicle in the UK. Should there be extreme circumstances preventing this, a formal written request should be sent to SO2, G1 Vehicle Licensing, HQ UKSC (G), to request that an appropriate alternative person register the vehicle on your behalf. Only with written authority from SO2, G1 Vehicle Licensing, is this possible.
There are various registration offices, which can be utilised, however we would recommend that you use the Vehicle Registration Office in Maidstone, as this office is familiar with over the counter registrations.
To register your vehicle you will require the documentation as listed below. It is essential that you take all of this with you, as you will be unable to register your vehicle without this.
- BFG Form 73 - Registration Card
- Yellow BFG Form 414
- UK Pink Log Book
- Vehicles with no log book will require a Certificate of Conformity
- UK Insurance Cover Note (dates must coincide with registration date). Please note that your existing policy will not be sufficient and as such you will need to contact your insurance provider to obtain this
- Identity Card
- Authority Letter from purchaser, on original headed paper
- Cheque or cash to pay for six months UK road tax and first registration fee if applicable
- A current MOT certificate for vehicles over three years old
- Passport and UK Driving Licence
Prior to presenting your documents for registration, you will be required to complete a VAT V55/5, which is obtained at the registration office. All of the information you require for the completion of this form will be contained within the paperwork you have with you.
Please do not be daunted by this process, as your NAAFI Car Sales Representative will be happy to assist you.
Before you are able to register your vehicle with the British Forces Germany Vehicle Licensing Office (BFG VLO), you will need to obtain an Import Licence (BFG Form 80) from Customs & Immigration.
To obtain the BFG Form 80 you will need to complete a BFG Form 60, and arrange for it to be stamped by your Unit and signed by a Commissioned Officer or a UK Civil Servant of Officer Status, as appropriate and send it, together with a stamped addressed return envelope, to C&I, BFLO (G), BFPO 40.
Once in receipt of this form, a BFG From 20 must be completed and physically taken to your Unit BFG/Admin Office, together with the following documentation:
- BFG Form 80
- Vehicle Log Book
- Proof of Valid Insurance (check with your Unit BFG Office, for approved companies)
- UK Insurance: Green Card or insurance policy and schedule German Insurance: Double or single white card and proof of payment
- Identity Card
- BFG Driving Permit (BFG Form 73)
- UK Driving Licence
- Passport - For non-Military
Your Unit BFG Office/Admin Office will check your BFG Form 20 and relevant paperwork. This will then be signed and stamped and submitted to the BFG VLO, who will process your BFG registration and produce your BFG 73 and Licence Plates.
Please be aware that you must BFG register your vehicle within 30 days of collection and that all vehicles must be BFG registered prior to re-entry into the UK.
Should you be posted back to the UK, please be aware that your vehicle must be BFG registered for a minimum of 7 days prior to re-entry into the UK.
Some Manufacturers will facilitate this. To find out more, please visit your local showroom or call us free from Germany on 08000 33 22 33 or 08000 85 61 90 from the UK.
